What happened to "Merry Christmas"?

When I was growing up (many years ago) I never heard the term "Seasons Greetings" or "Happy Holidays" We were not expected to be politically correct in those days. We were not being disrespectful of anyone else's religion, only being true to ours. Christmas cards all read "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" Stores had signs proclaiming "Christmas sales". Windows were decorated with "Christmas" decorations. There was always a giant Christmas tree in the center of town colorfully decorated with "Christmas" lights. The radio continually played the sounds of Christmas and television showed Christmas stories (in black and white,of course)

Does anyone remember "snow ice cream?

It didn't snow much in our small town in the South but when it did snow it was a time for merriment  for all the children as we built funny looking snowmen  and made snow ice cream with the fresh new fallen snow. That was the very best ice cream in the world back then!   Long before we knew about all the dangers of stuff in the air!

From Shelby White   Wedowee, Alabama   Oct 2, 2007  -----------------------Blessed are the little children

These thoughts came from Bailey Caldwell, age 7, from Ala. she is my sisters great grandchild and in the second grade.

My favrite Holaday is Chstmas. It is Also Jesess birthday. Christmas is a loving time. It is also the time of year to send lots of time with familey. Christmas is the time to celebrate Jeses crist Christmas is a grate time to be with Familey. thats why I love christmas.

(p.s. her spelling is by sound) but her message is clear Jesus and Family are very important to second graders.

 Christmas starts in November

In the US, the Christmas season traditionally begins just after Thanksgiving.  The Saturday immediately following Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping days of the year.  Shopping malls and small shops elaborately decorate their stores to entice shoppers to spend.  There is an  atmosphere of generosity and good cheer known as the "Christmas Spirit" throughout the country

Christmas was originally a strictly religious holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus.  For many people, it still is a very religious holiday as Christians around the world,  celebrate the birth of Jesus and recognize him as Lord and Savior .  It is also a time for family visits and celebrations, lots of good food, laughter, love and merriment.

Christmas Cards / Holiday Cards

These greetings are sent during the Christmas season by millions of people including many non-Christians.

For many people, the only communication they have with long time friends and acquaintances, is the yearly Christmas card and for some a Christmas letter. (Here's what has happened in our family during this year, now, how about your year? )    In our very busy lives, this is a way to stay in touch with those we care for but seldom ever see.

Many business send holiday greetings to their customer/client list just to let them know that they appreciate their business and to develop good will.
